Safe observations first
- Turn cooling off at the thermostat so the system is not continuing to build ice.
- Keep people and belongings away from water near ceilings, equipment, or electrical components.
- Do not chip, scrape, or heat the ice and do not open equipment panels.
- Photograph the visible ice and nearby water from a safe position.
- Note filter condition, airflow before shutdown, and how long the problem had been occurring.
Signals to share with the office
- Water is near electrical equipment or entering finished areas
- Ice returns after the equipment has fully thawed
- The blower is not moving air
- A breaker trips or electrical odor is present
- Cooling is unavailable during dangerous indoor temperatures

Can a dirty filter cause ice?
Restricted airflow can contribute to coil icing, but seeing a dirty filter does not prove it is the only cause. The complete system still needs to be checked.
Can I restart the system after the ice melts?
Because the cause is unverified and water may be present, contact the service office for guidance before resuming normal cooling operation.
